Bass Pro Shops started in 1978, when its owner, John L. Morris sold a fishing section in the back of his father's liquor store. John sold homemade baits and they were quite popular. The first Bass Pro Shops was opened in 1984 in Springfeild, Missouri. 


Bass Pro Shops is a privately held company that sells a variety of fishing, camping, and outdoor supplies. The definition of a privately held company means that the company isn't owned in the government. They have shops in California, Quebec, Ontario, New York, and many more places.

The stores that Bass Pro Shops compete with would be Canadian Tire, The Fishin' Hole (in Sunridge Mall), Wholesale Sports, and etc.

Their competitive edge would be their decorations, they have mounted  taxidermy and a huge aquarium full of indigenous fishes. They also have a 12-lane bowling alley that connects with its own restaurant. The experiences that they give to their customers would be their demonstrations on how to fish with artificial baits. They are also known for their Outdoor Workshop Skills, which teaches for archery hunting and Dutch oven cooking.
